On the initiative of the MSRS, a forum of leaders of overseas Russian-speaking youth organisations was held in September 2004. The International Association of Youth Organisations of Russian Compatriots (MAMORS), established at that forum, became a collective member of the MSRS. Andrei Kozenko, a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, became the head of MAMORS.
In 2012, a cooperation agreement was signed between Rossotrudnichestvo and MAMORS. As stated at the time, ‘The association comprises 67 youth organisations from 44 countries around the world. The creation of MAMORS marked the beginning of a process to consolidate youth organisations of Russians living abroad, enhance their role in the life of the Russian diaspora, and strengthen ties with their historical homeland’. At the time, it was envisaged that “Young Compatriots and Rossotrudnichestvo would attract promising specialists to the Motherland”, as stated in the headline on the “Russian Century” portal for compatriots, established by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, in 2017, MAMORS was officially removed from the list of active organisations.
